Real One is Real One

Listen to this article Listen to this article

I guess I have not really gotten over the Da Vinci Code... Still found myself researching on it... guess there is a part in me which is just curious about the whole matter. Here are a few "movies" I have found online:

Here's a documentary on The Da Vinci Code by Discovery Channel, hosted on YouTube (Tip: Turn down your volume first):

Here's another Discovery Channel, " Conspiracies On Trial - The Da Vinci Code", also hosted on YouTube:

And yet another, hosted on Google Video. "The Real Da Vinci Code", a Wildfire Television Production for Channel 4 was first shown in Feb 2005 and later rebroadcasted on Apr 28 on Discovery Channel.:

Here's a funny flash (Source: Singapore Youth for Christ) sent to me through email (some of you might have seen it before):

The Day I Was Handcuffed

Listen to this article Listen to this article

Caught Red-Handed
I have been feeling real bad about my late-coming to work and today, I was caught red-handed by my boss; was walking into office some 20 minutes late and she saw me as she was coming out of the washroom. Oops!

Although she did not say anything, I just feel so bad and it is worse now... I remember that she commented to me once that being from Human Resources, we should set a good examples but here I am today 2o minutes late... I have tried to wake up early and come to work but I am just so mentally tired that I find it difficult to do so... just don't seem to get enough rest. Even though so, I am still going to try my best to be punctual and I will try...

Talking about stress... it all begins again today. When I start receiving endless number of phonecalls and emails asking about volunteering, it could only be one thing... school holidays are here.

Handcuffed During Devotion

Handcuff by
andimedia

We had devotion today and the person sharing was looking for 2 volunteers for a "show and tell". I was ultimately "volunteered" and he made me sit beside him and handcuffed me with these 2 metal handcuffs. Worst, he secured the handcuffs so tightly, ouch!

Anyway, that's not the point. He handcuffed me and went on to talk about unforgiveness and how we were in bondage when we have unforgiveness in our hearts. How timely, I thought... of all people, I have to be chosen. The scenario was however more peculiar: there I was, a person struggling with unforgiveness, sitting down handcuffed, bearing with the slight pain and discomfort having been handcuffed so tightly (I could not stop my friend also because he has already start sharing) and all these while, having to bear with the pain and focus on the sharing of the word. It was almost like speaking to me that: sometimes we are so preoccupied with the pain we miss hearing the word... sounds familiar?

The Evening that Went Woosh Woosh Woosh
Haven't been playing badminton for some time now. A colleague of mine suggested we go for a session of badminton and I must say it was good workout hahaha though I can never fully put to practice my understanding of the rules of badminton... To end the evening, went to try the Fish & Chips nearby... haha sinful food... deepfried... kinda defeats purpose of the workout right :)

Fork in Head

Everytime I hear some shocking news of violence involving youths and children, I can't help but lament again... just as I did here and here... My friend just told me that a boy in his school got into an argument with another and jabbed a fork into his head... shocking news... what is the world becoming? What are people doing about it?

"Must-Have" Links for VPMs

Listen to this article Listen to this article

Information must be at your fingertips when you are a Volunteer Programme Manager and with that in mind, I just would like to share some "must-have" web links for VPMs to make their lives easier:
  • SBS Transit & SMRT Buses- When you need to travel to places (e.g. project sites where volunteers are helping out) and you wonder how you could get there.
  • StreetDirectory.Com - You will sometimes come across weird unheard of addresses and this makes you really where your volunteers really stay or where your prospective corporate volunteers' office is. Use streetdirectory.com to help you find where they stay so you can place them appropriately as well.
  • Family Service Centres - Sometimes people might approach the VPM not so much to sign up as a volunteer but to seek help. If it is within the scope of service provided by the VPM's organization then it would be most straughtforward. Else, they can be referred to the nearest Family Service Centre(s) for help
  • SingPost - For those times when you need to find the postal code for an address
  • SingTel & Starhub - When you really really need to SMS a volunteer (considering it is costly to SMS all your volunteers using your own handphone)
  • MOE School Information Service - Especially useful when you are working with schools and need to find out specific information about the school e.g. who the Principal and Vice Principal are etc.

OK, shall add on to the list when I have any more recommendations...

Sweet vs Bitter Weekend

Listen to this article Listen to this article

Sweet Sweet Love
I was treated to a sweet sweet experience this weekend; being able to witness the holy matrimony of 2 of my CG mates...

Being the videographer has somehow given me to "ticket" to catch the action closeup since I was"licensed" to do so. This is also the first time, with my trusty camera, I experimented with angles and zoom (not to say that I am well-versed in videography but just feeling adventurous), focusing on capturing the magic and emotions of the moment... From my camera, I just sense so much love...

I have attended many a wedding but none as sweet as this one where I can sense the love and joy literally "oozing" out of the couple.

Bitterness in Life
Life is full of ups and downs and almost like a reminder after experiencing the sweetness yesterday, Sunday's sermon reminded me of bitterness in life and did force me to reflect how I would react to such bitterness. Sometimes, life deals us with such a bad and fatal blow, it becomes very very hard to accept it. But Job presented a lesson of relentless faith; his faith in God remain true despite having been struck by misfortune that literally took everything from him. But yet, when chastised by his wife to "curse God and die" so he could avoid all the suffering, he responded: "...shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?..." (Job 2:10)

I am thinking that to some, they may feel puzzled; they may feel that some Christians are foolish; using this "trials are good for us as God knows best and want us to grow" attitude in the face of adversity, just to just feel peace. Some may shake their heads in disapproval at this kind of "meekness".

I speak for myself as I can see the peace of mind I have after coming through a bad patch last year; I see the difference before and after I "let go and let God". One thing is for sure: life is more meaningful now (though there are some things that can be better) and I have grown significantly throughout the last few months after returning like the prodigal son. "Letting Go and Letting God" does not mean you lie passively and let God run your life but having the peace of mind knowing that God is with you. I shall always remember my favourite scripture:

Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

James 1:2-4 also says "2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. "

Adversities are necessary to help you grow. I received something meaningful from my friend quite some time ago on lesson we can learn from a cocoon.

Being a Christian doesn't mean you will not face trials and adversities but you will have the peace of mind and assurance to face it because you know that God is with you, just as Psalms 23 says "The Lord is my Shepherd".

Here's a refreshing look at Psalms 23 I received from another friend.

Darlene Zschech's "To You"
Heard a nice worship song today but can't seem to find the lyrics.

First Time in Many Months
Remember the "friend who was beginning to hate me"? Well, he has been asking me out for dinner several times but so far, did not manage to come out, either because I already have prior arrangements of the timing wasn't right i.e. too late. I must also admit that I am a bit lost whether I should meet him because it will be awkward. So far, we have been communicatin through SMS and everything seems OK. But today he called me... I wasn't that prepared to talk to him on the phone and figured I might have sounded a bit "hostile".

(Postnote: The next day, I smsed him and apologize for sounding hostile and did share that I might have sounded so because I just wasn't prepared. Guess I might still just be comfortable with communicating through SMS for now).
