In God's Timing

God Blesses...
Sometimes some things happen and it makes it very difficult to believe there is no God... God has brought me to my current job in a Christian organisation and has also blessed me from day one... I continually see His blessings and guidance and continue to give thanks for it (sometimes I do worry that this favour will not last long).

Today, it happened again; God always send the right people with the right skills at the right time whenever I needed volunteers. I have recently started to look out volunteers for relatively large scale projects to take place in the later half of this year; two fundraising projects and one elderly charity luncheon and performance. And as I sat down to clear the pile of volunteer applications, which has sat on my desk for close to two months now, I started to realize that some could be suitable for these projects. Had I cleared them earlier, I would have deployed them to do other things. As I spoke to every one of them, I realized that some are in committees of halls, some are in performance CCAs like chinese orchestra, some are in cosplay. Perfectly suitable to help me in my fundraising and performance at the charity luncheon.

I was also looking for volunteers to help with curriculum development and surprisingly, a volunteer who I was interviewing today and thought would opt for direct work, actually chose to help with that project.

I had also been thinking about incorporating service learning into my volunteer assignments but do not know how to. But today, I was invaded with ideas after ideas for an upcoming service learning project I am coordinating for a school and these hit me just as I was ironing my clothes... eureka!

... I Give Thanks
Being blessed itself is not enough... with a thankful heart, i would like to give thanks for:
  • My Sister's Safety - I thank God for watching over her and that the snake did not attack her last week
  • My Dad's Health - I thank God for watching over my dad when he went for his eye surgery today. Even though he is inflicted with many medical conditions and today's surgery is a minor one, I still thank God for a successful surgery.
  • My Work - I thank God for all the blessings the work I do. (Anyway, was given a little time to idle today, somehow I just wasn't in the mood to do anything and towards the last 2 hours at work, I just stared at the screen... tired or lazy, I don't know).

It Ended with a Bang!

A Unique Experience
Finally! The exchange programme is over and I can finally heave a sigh of relief... several weeks of planning and coordinating, several weeks of headache and worrying that things will go wrong has finally came to an end. Frankly, I am not sure if I would want to coordinate an exchange programme ever again but looking back, it was a unique experience. For example, it was a unique experience sitting amidst a group of people chitting chatting away in a language that you could make no sense of and having a interpreter doing simultaneous translation as they speak (amazing how they can do that!).

"Cho Maji Yabai"!
I eventually got warmed up to the delegates but only last night when we met for the farewell dinner. Although there were language barriers, we did eventually managed to communicate with one another and I was taught a few Japanese lingo like "yabai" which meant "shiok", "maji yabai" which means "very shiok" and "cho maji yabai" which means "super very shiok". Hahaha, literally, we were saying "cool" and "very cool" and "super very cool" to one another the whole night; me to the teenagers and they to me. One of the memorable moments is when one of the teenage boys sang his teeth into some sambal kang kong and keep saying "yabai" and kept ordering orange juice to douse the spicyness. I was afraid that I seemed aloof to them since I was so quiet most of the time but it seems that they remembered me as "the one who smiled radiantly".

Thanksgiving
I am so amazed how everything came together so well for the programme. I really thank God for the rights things happening at the right place at the right time with the right people being sent along the way to help. And the programme ended with a bang on the last night; a pleasant surprise. At first, the dinner was planned at Boat Quay not knowing that the Singapore Fireworks Festival will also be happening on the same night. So as we all just sat along the Singapore River and enjoyed the meal, we were treated to a magical sight with fireworks. What a magical way to end the programme and the fireworks made it all the more memorable. Considering that this is the first exchange programme that I had to coordinate, I only have God to thanks for everything because it just wouldn't have been possible without blessings from God. Thank God for answering my prayers!

A Little Misunderstanding
I just realized today that my actions have caused a mini misunderstanding. Apparently, I was helping someone but my helpfulness has been misinterpreted by the person whom I was helping that I taken a fancy of her. I guess sometimes I just have to be careful to not to be too helpful. Pray that I will not further mislead this person...
